Lady Raptors Put Big Chill on Detroit, Austin; Headed To National Playoffs As Regional Champs E-mail
Written by Glen Richardson of the Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle

Glendale Raptor Women Regional Champs

The Glendale Lady Raptors were warm and emotional after leaving teams from Detroit and Austin shivering and shaking in the first-ever Women’s Rugby Regional at Infinity Park, Oct. 10-11. Already territorial champs, they warmed-up the weekend by emerging as the regional champions. They now head to Boston for National Playoffs, Oct. 24-25.

With light snow falling and temperatures in the low 20s for the 10 a.m. start of the Lady Raptors first match at Infinity Park South they slipped by Detroit. The Division 2 National Champions in 2003 and 2004, Detroit has moved up to Division 1 status. Despite the penetrating cold, the final score was Raptors 16, Detroit 5.

Next day the Lady Raptors played a rematch with Austin, a team they defeated at the West Territorial in Dallas by a score of 28 to 10. In a game-delayed start because of icy field conditions, both teams got off to a cold start. The Raptors re-crystallized in the second half, however, ostensibly leaving Austin as confused as a cow on Astroturf. Looking like stars on ice, the Lady Raptors left Austin out in the cold with a frigid final score of 24-0.
